The Creative Earth Collective Store

Hello friends,After countless thoughts about how to spread awareness on how our lifestyles can improve the health of our wellbeing, our communities and our earth, today I launch the Creative Earth Collective store, an online store for resources that inspire conscious living, beginning with zines (independent magazines) and a borrowing library. There is room here for creative collaboration, so if that interests you reach me through this link.Every day we learn something new about how to be better to ourselves, to each other and to the earth that sustains us. My hope for the Creative Earth Collective resources is that they can inspire us on that path and create for us, collectively, a more balanced experience on this earth. ...

An Invitation to Collaborate via the Creative Earth Collective

The idea for the Creative Earth Collective was born out of a desire to find creative solutions to protect Bahrain's natural landscape through a grassroots approach, including both awareness raising projects and on-the-ground projects. This island is filled with creatives in all fields and individuals who feel a connection to Bahrain's natural beauty and want nature connection to be a part of their lives. The purpose of the Collective is to create a platform to bring ideas to life that serve the local landscape, the community, and the collaborators, while also strengthening community ties through the collaborative process. [caption id="attachment_4291" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Photo of street art in New York City[/caption] The Creative Earth Collective is now open to discussing collaborations. Here are just some of the possible...

Freedom

This time last year I wrote the piece below on the stories of inspiring women pursuing creative paths in Bahrain. This month, as Malja, a haven for budding artists, writers and musicians, has come to a close, I am seeing how far we've come collectively as a community in making creative expression accessible locally and giving people platforms to shine. Some people who frequented Malja are now stepping up to that role by organizing open mics on their own, keeping that energy of safe havens alive. As I deepen my own understanding of what conscious living is about and what draws me to it, I'm realizing that for me it's a longing for freedom. Whether its freedom from having to manage clutter, or needing a big...

Simple Pleasures

It started with a thought: what if we had community meetups in Bahrain's parks? Sunset walks, or a quiet afternoon reading books or magazines at a park by the sea, or playing boardgames, or meditations, or sharing stories of memorable experiences in nature that have changed us? The options are endless. I wondered why I felt drawn to those experiences and what they had in common, and it one thing: they were simple pleasures. So in early October, I reached out to some community-minded people about creating a series of community events called Simple Pleasures. They were all in, and a month later, we are here, having co-created a series of ideas for outdoor events that have burst forth from our hearts, each with a different signature.We...

Yoga by Candlelight

I remember the first time I walked into Serenity, a yoga and meditation center. It was a Thursday evening, and I went to sign up for an upcoming course. I happened to walk in right at the end of a prenatal yoga class by Amal, my yoga teacher. I saw women chatting and packing up their mats, hugged Amal, and met the owner Frances and asked her the story behind how she decided to open this center.I had no plans that Thursday, but those fifteen minutes felt like a little outing that lifted my spirits. Sometime after, I went back for a new candlelit yoga class with Amal. There, in the room, lights dim and mats laid side by side, Amal began by asking us...

Meet Haya

Meet Haya. A young woman who is deeply inspired to spread awareness about the impact of modern lifestyle choices on our health and our earth.Haya does the gritty work. The technical: endlessly translating trending social media campaigns to Arabic to get the message across to our community. The uncomfortable: willing to reach out to people of all backgrounds and ages with no promise of any appreciation or validation in return.I first met Haya at a Green Living talk she gave at Words Bookstore Cafe where I learned a ton about why using cleaner, natural products at home matters. Here are two simple natural home cleaners from her that I’ll be trying.Multi-purpose cleaner: 1/4 cup white vinegar 2 tablespoons baking soda few drops of an essential oil (e.g. tea tree, lavender, lemongrass,...

The Conscious Living Community

Over the past few years, I have been lucky enough to meet so many people who are inspired to live natural, healthy and balanced lifestyles in Bahrain. Each one of them has given me belief in the beauty and strength of this community of Conscious Living: people who live with an awareness of how their everyday choices can help themselves, others and the planet. This blog will explore some of those people and the inspiring work that they do, whether they are making handmade natural products, healing through yoga, or challenging themselves to live more environmentally because they trust that their everyday choices make a difference. I hope you get to see what I see: a growing community of people who are creating change by believing in...
